The Jokes Are on George Clooney and Adam Sandler Pairing in Jay Kelly
Los Angeles, US: Adam Sandler is undoubtedly no stranger to comedy movies, including the long-awaited sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. George Clooney has long established himself as a leading man, from serious dramas to tongue-in-cheek romantic comedies. However, fans of both mega stars are about to get their long-deserved wish of seeing both film titans together in the upcoming film, “Jay Kelly.”
The coming-of-age comedy drama produced by Netflix recently made a smashing debut at the 82nd annual Venice International Film Festival. Instead of following the trials and tribulations of youth coming into adulthood, Clooney stars as Jay Kelly, an aging movie star with plenty of time to regret his poor life choices, as he visits Europe.
Along for the ride is Kelly’s manager, Ron Sukenick, played by Adam Sandler. While there is plenty of comedic gold between Sandler and Clooney, Clooney encouraged the other cast members, Laura Dern, Stacy Keach, and the filmmakers to challenge Sandler to have more serious moments.
Clooney is an expert in this area, after thrilling movie audiences, finding the right tone between comedy and seriousness in the Ocean’s Eleven series as they pulled off impossible heists at the big casinos near me and countless filmgoers in Las Vegas.
In a recent interview, Clooney had tremendous praise for Sandler’s acting range, stating, “Don’t talk to him like he’s just some goofy comedian. He’s actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor.”
Director Noah Baumback began principal production in March 2024. Besides having an ensemble cast which also stars Billy Crudup, “Jay Kelly” is an International production with scenes being shot in New York, London, and the Tuscan region. “Jay Kelly” is set to premiere at select movie theaters in November 2025. Netflix plans a worldwide release in early December.
