From Rural Sindh to Global Readers: The Literary Journey of Author Waqas Hussain

Waqas Hussain, born and raised in Digri, a small town in Sindh, Pakistan, is recognized as an emerging voice in contemporary English-language literature from Pakistan. His progression from a rural upbringing to gaining readership beyond national borders reflects the increasing global reach of Pakistani writers in the digital publishing era.

Waqas began writing short stories at the age of sixteen, encouraged by his mother who recognized his early passion for storytelling. What started as handwritten pages in a small home soon evolved into a lifelong commitment to literature. After completing 18 years of formal education, he pursued writing full-time, sharpening his creative and analytical approach to fiction.

Over the years, Waqas has developed a narrative style that blends emotion, realism, moral choices, and psychological depth. His works explore themes of love, justice, faith, mystery, and resilience  often drawing from real-life human challenges and social experiences.

His romantic-drama novel The Black Eyes: A Love Story Never Heard, Never Listened earned recognition for its emotional complexity and heartfelt storytelling. In contrast, his mystery-thriller Shadows of Willow Creek: A Detective’s Pursuit of Justice in a Town’s Darkest Secrets demonstrates his ability to shift across genres, weaving suspense, emotion, and morality into a compelling investigation-driven plot.

Beyond fiction, Waqas authored One God, One Message: Understanding Islam Through Shared Beliefs, a reflective work focused on interfaith understanding and shared values. The book aims to present Islam through universal human principles, accessible to both Muslim and non-Muslim audiences.

In 2025, Waqas Hussain was honored with the Best National Writer Youth Award, recognizing his contribution to modern Pakistani storytelling and youth literary motivation. His publications on Amazon and other platforms have helped establish him as part of a new wave of Pakistani authors who are leveraging digital publishing to reach global readers.

Despite living far from large literary hubs, Waqas used technology, discipline, and creativity to write, edit, and release his books internationally. His journey highlights a broader cultural shift  where voices from rural regions are increasingly finding global platforms through digital access and independent publishing.

“I want young people to see that creativity has no borders,” he says. “Stories written in a small town can travel across the world if they carry sincerity and purpose.”

Today, Waqas continues to work on fiction, motivational writing, and interfaith projects. He remains committed to using literature as a tool to inspire young minds, promote cultural understanding, and explore the beauty and complexity of human emotions.
