The Shift That Changed AI Tutoring

The idea behind Quad was shaped not just by the rise of consumer AI but by years of understanding its limitations. Founder Milos Becarevic spent six years at BlackRock, including the last three leading the firm’s first approved internal AI model, where accuracy and reliability were essential. For much of 2023, he believed AI wasn’t ready for high-stakes education. As reasoning models matured, however, that changed. AI evolved from simply answering questions to understanding how students learn, recognising when they struggle, and adapting its guidance. Quad was built on that turning point.

The Difference Between Answering and Teaching

At the heart of Quad is an AI tutor designed to do more than answer questions. Built alongside an adaptive SAT curriculum, the platform combines fifteen full-length practice tests and more than 6,000 practice questions while continuously analysing how students learn. Unlike many AI tutoring tools that wait for students to ask for help, Quad’s content-aware tutor understands what students are studying, recognizes when they are struggling and proactively steps in with guidance before they even ask. The goal is not simply to provide answers, but to keep students progressing through difficult concepts without losing momentum.

When human expertise adds the most value, Quad connects students with a network of experienced tutors, many of whom have competed in International Mathematics Olympiads. These results are based on early deployments and have not been independently verified and outcomes likely vary depending on student profile and engagement. Equedu also notes that since 2019 it has supported students who have gone on to earn scholarships and admissions to universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Dartmouth, and Duke.

Quad, developed by Equedu, is being built as a global preparation platform for ambitious students, beginning with the SAT and expanding to exams such as the TOEFL, GRE and GMAT. Instead of relying on adapted or translated content, the company focuses on exam-specific systems tailored to the structure and demands of each test. Over time, Equedu’s goal is to create a single platform that supports students across every major academic milestone, combining AI-driven instruction with targeted human tutoring where it adds the most value. Quad is offered as a subscription rather than an hourly service, giving students access to the full curriculum, unlimited practice, and expert tutoring at a fraction of the cost of private one-on-one preparation.
