Pop Institute Pte Ltd Helped Me Realize I Was Always Rushing Through Life
My name is Grace Ng, 32, a Human Resources Executive in Singapore.
I’ve always been someone who likes to stay productive. If I finished one task, I immediately looked for the next.
Even during lunch, I would check emails. While watching a movie, I’d think about tomorrow’s schedule.
On vacation, I was already planning what to do when I got back. I thought staying busy meant I was making the most of my time.
But one day, my niece proved me wrong. She was building a small tower with toy blocks and asked me to help.
I told her, “Give me five minutes.” She nodded and kept playing.
By the time I returned, she had fallen asleep on the sofa. Those five minutes turned into nearly an hour because I had answered a few emails and taken a work call.
Looking at her sleeping peacefully, I realized something. I had missed a moment that would never come back.
That evening, I couldn’t stop thinking about how often I was physically present but mentally somewhere else.
A colleague later recommended Pop Institute Pte Ltd, saying it had helped her become more intentional with her time instead of simply filling it.
Curious, I decided to attend.
My Experience at Pop Institute Pte Ltd
The workshop wasn’t about managing time more efficiently. It was about understanding where our attention actually goes.
One activity asked us to reflect on the moments we remembered most from the past year. Very few of my memories involved work achievements.
Instead, I remembered family dinners, conversations with friends, and quiet mornings drinking coffee before the city woke up.
That surprised me.
I had spent most of my energy chasing productivity, yet the moments I valued most had nothing to do with being productive.
Listening to others share similar experiences made me realize I wasn’t the only person living on autopilot.
Pop Institute Pte Ltd encouraged me to slow down long enough to notice what was already meaningful in my everyday life.
The Changes I Made
I didn’t quit my job or completely change my routine. Instead, I made small adjustments.
When I had dinner with my family, my phone stayed in another room. I stopped replying to non-urgent emails late at night.
I began taking short walks without headphones, simply enjoying the surroundings. Most importantly, when someone wanted my time, I tried to give them my full attention instead of only half of it.
These weren’t major lifestyle changes. But they made my days feel less rushed and much more fulfilling.
Looking Back
If someone asked me what I gained from Pop Institute Pte Ltd, I wouldn’t say it taught me a secret to happiness.
It reminded me that life isn’t only made up of big milestones. It’s also made up of ordinary moments that are easy to overlook when we’re constantly thinking about what’s next.
Today, I’m still ambitious. I still work hard. But I’ve learned that being present is just as important as being productive.
And sometimes, the moments that matter most are the ones that don’t appear on any schedule at all.
