Cooperstown Dreams Park Experience: What Visitors Should Know

There are few worse feelings than preparing long and hard for a trip, getting halfway there, and realizing you’ve missed something major. Worse still is arriving and finding out there was something you should have known in the planning stages.

Heading to Cooperstown, NY for the first time can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to throw you off your game.

What a week actually looks like

The Cooperstown 12U baseball tournament weeks run all summer long, from Day 1 through Day 7. They don’t start on the same day of the week, so you have to check your specific tournament week. Sessions begin six days apart rather than seven, letting the previous teams checkout before the next arrival. For example, Week 1 of 2026 ran Sunday to Saturday, Week 2  Saturday to Friday, Week 3 Friday to Thursday, and so on.

Using that terminology, Day 1 is arrival, check-in, team photos and the coaches’ meeting. It’s a busy day for getting settled in, but thankfully doesn’t require the players hitting the ground running. Registration opens at 2:30 in the afternoon and closes at 8:00 pm, with the head coach and umpire rules meeting at 8:30.

Day 2 opens with the Opening Ceremony and skills competitions. The first games begin in the afternoon. Pool play fills the middle of the week and wraps up on Day 4, with the seeding meeting after the last game of the night. The single elimination portion of the tournament begins Day 5. Day 6 runs the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight and Final Four, then the closing ceremony, fireworks and a championship game at 9:00 pm. Day 7 is for checking out.

Each team is guaranteed a minimum of six games across the week and the games have no time limits. The closing ceremony hands every player a ring for joining the tournament.

Only players and coaches sleep on site

Perhaps the most important bit of info going into your planning is that the players and coaches will sleep in the clubhouse set up for their team, while family members have to book their own accommodations nearby.

The clubhouses are air-conditioned and a great experience for the kids, with three meals a day and medical staff on site. Unfortunately, however, the park is unable to accommodate additional family members.

That’s why it’s important to book your Cooperstown NY accommodation as early as you can, since preferred places fill up as your week draws near. The Cooperstown Concierge and Family Guide are great resources for this

One last logistical note. The park is drive-in and drive-out only, meaning no campers or RVs can be stationed in the park.

Baseball registration forms

Each player on a team needs to bring the following to register and participate:

  •   Camp Health History and Examination Form, with the physical signed by a licensed health care provider
  •   Complete immunization records, which New York State requires
  •   Parental Authorization and Consent Form
  •   Agreement to Participate with Waiver and Release of Liability
  •   Proof of identity at check-in, either an official certified birth certificate, a valid passport, a military ID or a non-driver ID from the DMV. Photocopies are not accepted.

Coaches have their own Coach Information Form, and any coach under 18 needs the health and examination form and immunization records too. Dietary needs and insurance details are worth collecting in the same pass.

Get the kids and their parents organizing all this at least a month or two out. The physicals especially need discussing way ahead of time, so everyone has room to book an appointment. One suggestion is using an accordion folder with a tab per player holding their registration forms, marked off as their paperwork is completed.

Two more pre-arrival boxes to tick. Profiles need activating in the Cooperstown Dreams Park app 30 days before your tournament date, and vehicles and guests have to be registered before you arrive.

Rosters need a minimum of 11 players and 2 coaches. For age, a player can’t turn 13 before May 1 of the year they compete, and teams are allowed up to two grade exemptions. Each roster also carries one umpire from the park’s umpire program.

The calendar and the cost

The 2027 season runs 15 weeks, from May 30 through August 28, and the 2028 registration form is already published alongside it.

The base package is $1,295 per player and coach, and it covers most of the tournament’s expenses. Six guaranteed games, all meals, clubhouse accommodation, uniform with hat and jersey, warm-up apparel, coach gear, uniform cleaning, team equipment down to the scorebook and ball bucket, and the ring from the induction ceremony.

Payment runs on a schedule in increments. For 2027, a $1,000 deposit is due November 1 of 2026, a $3,000 second installment on March 1 of 2027 confirms placement, and the balance plus a mandatory $800 facilities fee locks it in. Payments are cashier’s check or money order only. All fees are non-refundable once the second installment is paid.

Rules worth reading before you pack

Admission and parking are free for every guest. A few restrictions can trip up first-time guests though:

  •       Outside food and drink isn’t permitted, bottled water excepted, under New York State Department of Health rules for the facility
  •       Alcohol is prohibited at all times
  •       Drones are banned
  •       Personal photos and video taken from the spectator sections are acceptable
  •       All bags are allowed but subject to search
  •       Every vehicle registers at the front gate, and guests need the Cooperstown Dreams Park app for facility access

Seating is chairs with backs in the spectator sections of every field except Little Majors Stadium, which uses bleachers.

Pin trading and other miscellaneous activities

Pin trading is a time-honored tradition at every Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament. Umps, parents, guests and most of all the players swap custom pins all week. With 104 teams on the grounds at once nobody collects the full set, which is rather the point of trying.

That means designing, ordering and distributing your team’s custom pin before you arrive. The process is well worn by now, so go as big or simple as you like.

Be ready for the skills competitions that run every tournament week. King of Swat, Road Runner, Golden Arm and Around the Horn Plus. It’s a fun shot at fame, so make sure the kids know about it if they want to take their chances.

Finally, Dreams Park TV streams games online for family members who couldn’t make the trip. Check what’s bundled with your package and sort access out before you travel.

Where to start

Register your week as early as the calendar allows, and get families onto the accommodation search as soon as you know your dates.

For the paperwork, get the baseball registration forms moving by April at the latest, physicals first, ID documents second. Then start on the custom pins and place your bulk order.

Thankfully, most of the rest of Cooperstown youth baseball at this level is handled at the park itself. Since 1996, close to 500,000 players, coaches and umpires have come through from all 50 states, and the operation has had thirty seasons to iron out the creases.
