A guide to inside and outside bets in online Roulette
Online Roulette offers a variety of betting options, and they are generally grouped into two main categories: inside bets and outside bets. Each type covers a different section of the table layout and is based on how many numbers you’re selecting with a single chip.
Understanding how these bets work can help you follow the game more easily, especially when trying out different versions of live Roulette online.
Inside bets
Inside bets are placed directly on the number grid, which includes the numbers 1 to 36, and in some versions, zero (or zero and double zero). These bets cover individual numbers or small groups, depending on where you place the chips.
- Straight Up – placed on a single number. You do this by placing your chip directly in the centre of any number square, including zero. It’s the most direct bet on the table.
- Split – covers two numbers next to each other on the grid. You place your chip on the line that separates the two numbers—for example, between 17 and 20. This bet covers both at once.
- Street – includes three numbers in a row across the table. To make this bet, place your chip at the end of a row—like 13, 14, 15—on the outer edge of the grid.
- Corner – covers four numbers that meet at a corner. Place your chip where the four numbers connect—for instance, covering 25, 26, 28, and 29.
- Line – covers six numbers—two rows of three. To place this bet, set your chip on the outer edge where two rows meet, such as between rows 10–12 and 13–15.
Outside bets
Outside bets are placed in the boxes around the number grid. These options cover larger groups of numbers and are clearly marked on the table layout.
- Red/black – covers all red or all black numbers on the wheel. Simply place your chip in the red or black box, depending on your selection. Zero (and double zero) are not included in this bet.
- Odd/even – you can bet on whether the next number will be odd or even. These options are found in clearly labelled boxes next to the red/black section. Again, zero is not part of either category.
- High/low – covers either numbers one–18 (low) or 19–36 (high). The layout clearly marks these sections. These ranges exclude zero and double zero.
- Column – There are three vertical columns of numbers on the table. You can bet on one of them by placing your chip in the box at the bottom of your chosen column. Each column contains 12 numbers.
- Dozen – allows you to choose from three sets of twelve numbers: one–12, 13–24, or 25–36. Chips are placed in the boxes labelled “first 12”, “second 12”, or “third 12”.
Both inside and outside bets are available in most online Roulette versions, and the table layout makes it easy to select your preferred options. Each type of bet offers a different style of play, and understanding how they work is a helpful step toward getting familiar with the game.
