A monitor displays a series of still images fast enough that the eye reads them as motion. Frame rate is how many of those images the computer produces each second.

The more frames drawn during that window, the more chances the player has to see them and react. At a low frame rate, the same movement is represented by fewer images, and a player can genuinely miss information that was technically on screen.

There is a second effect that matters just as much. Higher frame rates mean each image is more recent when it appears. The gap between something happening and the player seeing it shrinks. In a game where exchanges resolve in a fraction of a second, that gap is not academic.

Consistency beats peak numbers

Here is where most players optimise the wrong thing. They chase the highest number their machine can produce and ignore whether it holds.
