Fomo Invite Code: The Step New Traders Should Take Before Their First Trade

Social trading apps have turned referrals into a pricing tool. On Fomo, a mobile app for buying and selling crypto tokens across several blockchains, the invite code a new user brings decides what that person pays on every standard trade, and the window to add one closes at the first trade.

That makes the invite code less of a marketing gimmick and more of a setting: cheap to get right at the start, and impossible to change later.

What an invite code is on Fomo

Every Fomo account has a username, and every username works as an invite code. A personal invite link is fomo.family/r/ followed by that username. Fomo’s help center calls these referral codes; social posts and chat threads call them invite codes, sign-up codes or promo codes. On Fomo they all mean the same thing.

A worked example is the Fomo invite code DEAL, whose invite link is fomo.family/r/deal.

What the code changes

Fomo charges 0.50% on a standard trade. An account with a referrer pays 0.45%, so the discount is 10% of the fee, not 10% of the trade. Fomo applies the same reduction whichever genuine code is used.

Some code owners add something on top. Fomo pays code owners a share of the fees their invitees generate, and a few owners hand part of that share back. The owner of DEAL returns 12.5% of the Fomo fees a user pays, in USDC, which is why the offer is billed as 10% Off + Fee Cashback. The net cost works out to 0.39375% per standard trade.

Trading $6,400 a month Per month Per year
No code, 0.50% $32.00 $384.00
Any code, 0.45% $28.80 $345.60
DEAL, after 12.5% cashback $25.20 $302.40

Network costs sit outside those figures. On Solana, Fomo pays the gas. On other networks the network fee is added on top and shown before the trade is confirmed.

The deadline

Fomo’s help center states that a referral code can be applied until the user’s first trade. While an account has no referrer and no trades, the mobile app asks for a code when the user logs in. On the web, opening an invite link before logging in at fomo.family applies the code by itself. Once the first trade goes through, a code can no longer be added, and a referrer that has been recorded can’t be swapped for another.

In practice the order looks like this:

  1. Open the invite link, or keep the code ready, before the first login.
  2. Sign up with an Apple ID or a Google account, the two sign-up options Fomo offers.
  3. If the app shows a code box, type the code there.
  4. Before buying anything, open the trade details on an amount of 190 USDC or more. A fee of 0.45% confirms that a referrer is on the account.

Someone who installed the app and logged in without a code still has time, as long as no trade has been made. A step-by-step look at where the prompt appears on iPhone, Android and the web is in this Fomo app referral code walkthrough.

Why it matters beyond one app

Percentage fees rarely feel expensive because each one is small. Yet they are charged on every trade, winning or losing, and they grow with activity. A discount that has to be claimed at the start is easy to miss in the excitement of opening a new app, which is exactly when most people aren’t thinking about costs.

The broader lesson for anyone trying a new trading platform is to check three things on day one: the fee on a standard trade, what gets added on top of it, and which settings can only be chosen at the start. On Fomo, that last item is the invite code.

Disclosure: not affiliated with Fomo. The owner of code DEAL earns Fomo’s referral commission and returns part of it as cashback. Fomo sets its fees and referral terms and can change them. Not financial advice.
