From Moustache to Vapor: Ozone’s Long-Awaited Parakite Arrives in Australia

The modern parakite story has moved quickly, but for pilots waiting to see what Ozone would bring to the category, the arrival of the Vapor has felt like a long time coming.

FLARE helped ignite the movement with the Moustache, a production wing that showed how a new control system could combine the familiar world of paragliding with the speed, dive and terrain play associated with kites. It did more than launch another piece of equipment. It gave a name and a visible identity to a different way of flying.

Other manufacturers developed their own interpretations. Flow Paragliders, an Australian company, introduced the Mullet and continued refining the concept through later models. Dudek brought out the Touch, describing it as a combination of paraglider and kite characteristics with a control system and purpose distinct from a conventional paraglider. Each design helped demonstrate that parakiting was becoming a category in its own right.

Paragliding Shop brought modern parakiting to Australia, first introducing local pilots to FLARE’s Moustache and then the Dudek Touch. Now, with the Ozone Vapor, the company is leading the next evolution of parakiting in Australia.

For roughly three years, pilots have watched that category develop while asking when Ozone would enter it. There were discussions, prototypes and plenty of expectations about what a company with Ozone’s design experience might produce. In 2025, Ozone confirmed that its team had completed thousands of hours of testing and that its first parakite was nearing launch.

Now the wait is over.

The Ozone Vapor is the company’s first dedicated sport class parakite. It arrives as a seven size range from 11 to 25 square metres, with 55 cells, a pure three line layout, Black Sheep Technology and a reflex profile. Ozone lists EN 926-1 structural certification and makes it clear that the smallest 11 and 13 square metre sizes are for expert pilots only.

Those specifications are important, but the bigger story is where a wing like this can take Australian flying.

Australia has a vast coastline, seemingly endless dune systems and ridges that come alive when the wind direction is right. Pilots already travel long distances to find clean coastal airflow and terrain that can turn a windy day into a memorable session. A purpose-built parakite has the potential to open up more of those experiences for appropriately skilled pilots.

Its broad size range gives pilots options for different conditions and styles, while its specialist positioning makes the intended audience clear.

Paragliding Shop has now listed the Vapor in Australia with a $99 deposit option. The local product page presents colour and package choices, including wing-only configurations and packages with Ozone’s Atak 2 harness. Ozone positions the Atak 2 for speed flying, speed riding and parakiting, and lists EN 1651-2017 certification to 120 kilograms.

For Australian riders, the most exciting possibility is not just higher speed or another set of technical figures. It is access to a different kind of day. Coastal dunes and ridges that may not suit a conventional flying plan can become part of a new style of terrain-focused session when the pilot, equipment and conditions are properly matched.

That opportunity must be approached with respect. Parakiting requires specific understanding of the control system, honest assessment of skill and careful attention to site access, wind strength and local hazards. A new wing does not replace training or judgement. The smallest sizes in particular are specialist equipment, and Ozone’s expert-only guidance should be treated seriously.

Even with those cautions, the Australian fit is hard to ignore. Our coastline gives pilots an extraordinary variety of potential terrain, from low dunes to long ridges and elevated coastal faces. The Vapor gives experienced riders another tool for exploring those places and linking sections of terrain in ways that were previously difficult to imagine.

FLARE’s Moustache helped show what was possible. Flow’s Mullet and Dudek’s Touch added their own ideas and helped the category mature. After years of watching, waiting and hearing promises about the next level of performance, Australian pilots can finally see Ozone’s answer.
