How Digital Wallets Are Changing Payments at Vegastars
Digital wallets now handle more than half of online spending globally, and New Zealand casino platforms are adjusting fast to match how players want to move money.
The speed at which digital wallets replaced older payment methods caught a lot of industries off guard.
One industry that has seen some of the fastest growth is the online gambling space. New Zealand players have gravitated toward wallets and crypto-based options, partly because traditional bank transfers in and out of offshore casino platforms have always been slow and, at times, unreliable. There’s a reason platforms like Vegastars accept Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard, and a full range of cryptocurrency deposits – the demand from NZ players for faster payment is there.
Now, payment turnaround time is one of the first things players compare when picking a platform.
Why Wallet Adoption Accelerated This Fast
A November 2025 study from Juniper Research projected that digital wallet users worldwide will grow by 35% over the next five years. That’s a jump from 4.4 billion in 2025 to over 6 billion by 2030, meaning roughly three-quarters of the global population will be using a digital wallet by the end of the decade.
For online gambling, this changes what operators need to deliver on.
Where players once tolerated three-to-five business day withdrawals through bank transfer, they now expect closer to instant. Apple Pay deposits, in particular, have gone from novelty to default for a lot of iOS users in the NZ market. The fingerprint and tap-to-confirm process is identical to what they’d do buying a coffee – only the money goes into a casino account instead of a retail terminal.
Adam Coyle, chief strategy officer at Worldpay, addressed this directly in the company’s 2025 Global Payments Report.
“Consumer payment preferences have changed dramatically,” Coyle said, pointing to advancements in smartphone technology, fintech growth, and changing consumer expectations for convenience as the forces reshaping how people pay.
By 2024, digital wallets accounted for 53% of global e-commerce spending. That figure has only moved upward since.
What NZ Casino Players Are Choosing
Player preferences in New Zealand don’t track with the global average exactly.
For example, PayPal availability for gambling transactions in NZ is limited. Skrill and Neteller have gained ground instead, and cryptocurrency deposits have picked up faster here than across comparable APAC markets. Apple Pay fills a particular gap for card-funded deposits because it removes the need to enter card details manually on a casino cashier page.
Vegastars supports multiple deposit channels for NZ players:
- Apple Pay for instant mobile deposits
- Standard card transactions through Visa and Mastercard
- Eight cryptocurrencies accepted, including BTC, ETH, LTC, XRP, SOL, TRX, USDT, and USDC
- Bank transfer for players who prefer a traditional route
The withdrawal side is where the platform’s speed becomes most visible.
Crypto cashouts typically clear in minutes, while bank transfers take longer – anywhere from a few hours to several days depending on the bank. But the pending period itself, the casino-side processing window, usually clears within 30 minutes at Vegastars. That cuts out one of the biggest frustrations NZ players deal with on slower platforms.
Payment Methods Side by Side
| Payment Method | Typical Deposit Speed | Typical Withdrawal Speed | Currencies Supported |
| Apple Pay | Instant | Not available for withdrawal | NZD, AUD, USD |
| Visa / Mastercard | Instant | 1–3 business days | NZD, AUD, USD |
| Cryptocurrency | Minutes | Minutes | BTC, ETH, LTC, XRP, USDT and others |
| Bank Transfer | 1–3 business days | 1–5 business days | NZD, AUD, USD |
One thing this table doesn’t capture is how each method handles currency conversion. Crypto deposits sidestep traditional conversion fees, which is a real advantage for NZ players moving between NZD and platforms that primarily deal in USD or AUD.
Vegastars has NZD as a supported currency, so direct fiat deposits through Apple Pay or card don’t introduce a conversion step for Kiwi players at all.
Where Crypto Fits into Casino Payments
Cryptocurrency is often discussed as though it’s still experimental for online casinos. For platforms like Vegastars, it’s anything but. The platform accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, XRP, Solana, Tron, USDT, and USDC – a broader crypto range than what you’d find at most NZ-facing casino platforms operating right now.
For players who already hold crypto, depositing from a wallet to a casino account is faster than any card transaction. There’s no bank in the middle and no business-hours restriction. And there’s no pending window from a card processor either. Withdrawals follow a similar path, settling on-chain within minutes depending on network congestion.
Crypto isn’t for everyone, and Vegastars knows it.
NZ players who don’t already have a wallet set up aren’t likely to create one just to deposit at a casino. The advantage for Vegastars is offering both – crypto-native players use what they’re comfortable with, while Apple Pay and card deposits are there for everyone else.
Worldpay’s data projected global crypto spending to more than double between 2024 and 2030, from $16 billion to $38 billion. But online gambling platforms that weren’t early to adopt crypto are already playing catch-up.
Beyond the Cashier Page
Payment speed is the entry point, but it doesn’t explain why players come back.
Vegastars offers 6,000+ games from providers including Pragmatic Play, Playson, Hacksaw, Bgaming, Booongo, Wazdan, Betsoft, TaDa Gaming, and Quickspin. Live dealer tables range from blackjack, to roulette, baccarat, and game shows, with titles like Gates of Olympus Super Scatter and Sugar Rush 1000.
Many wallet-based deposits at Vegastars come through mobile. The platform is available on browser in a mobile-optimized format, and the cashier page works the way mobile users expect it to. Its performance through browser is so seamless that there’s no need to download an app -players can just jump on their phones and begin playing, without the hassle of searching and downloading. Live chat is available 24/7 through that interface too, so payment questions don’t require switching to email or waiting on a callback.
As digital payment infrastructure continues to evolve across the fintech space, platforms that move money quickly tend to perform better across every other metric – session length, deposit frequency, player retention. Vegastars appears to have structured its product around that correlation, pairing fast deposit and withdrawal processing with a large game library and 24/7 live chat support.
Responsible gambling tools are accessible through account settings: take a break, account closure, and self-exclusion. These are player-controlled and don’t require contacting support, which is worth pointing out given how many platforms still bury these options behind email requests or multi-step processes.
For NZ players managing their spending across multiple deposit methods, having those controls in one place is now a baseline expectation. It wasn’t always – when bank transfer was the only option, the delay itself acted as a natural pause.
