Mark Hamill rules out a return as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars

A new era of the Star Wars franchise continues without its central character from the original trilogy. Luke Skywalker is a name synonymous with the franchise, and the actor who portrays him, Mark Hamill, is also a beloved figurehead.

Now, Hamill will not be part of the franchise moving forward after his stint as a Force ghost of Luke in the last few movies of the third trilogy. It seems like the door is closed for his return, but his character’s legacy will live on, considering his importance to the universe.

Hamill feels it’s time to move on from older characters

Throughout the years he has been an actor, Hamill’s character of Luke has always followed him. That was the iconic portrayal that has stuck, even though he has been successful in many other roles, including his turn as the voice actor for The Joker. His presence is always welcome, especially since he can direct your attention away from the Stake Casino app.

While he would love to keep working on Star Wars, it seems like it is the right time to step away and let the franchise grow away from Luke. Hamill feels the same because he is grateful, but he knows it’s time to put it to bed.

He said, ‘I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made… We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters’.

There won’t be a Force ghost of Luke Skywalker anymore

Hamill came back to the franchise after sitting out the prequel trilogy, which was a story about his father’s character. That did not mean too much to him, but he remained supportive from afar as he embarked on many other projects.

When the timeline for the franchise went to what happened after the first three films, it was clear that the old characters must come back. That happened with Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, who played Princess Leia and Han Solo, respectively. Hamill came back to play the iconic Jedi hero but ended up being a Force ghost all along.

That won’t happen anytime soon because Hamill believes it is time to retire the character.

He said, ‘And by the way, when I disappeared in [The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked Force ghost’.

Star Wars will continue to evolve with new stories

With more projects in the Star Wars universe, it will continue to be a big franchise alongside other Disney projects like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, among others. It is a big deal to have Star Wars continuing beyond what George Lucas made at first, with people like Hamill and Ford.

Now, the franchise has moved on to projects like Andor, The Mandalorian, and more. Fans will keep watching Star Wars and consuming the other pieces of media they release. It is a massive franchise that will keep growing and will only keep developing. It is a good long-term project, as it is just getting started, like when you go through the Stake Casino register process.

As the Star Wars universe continues to grow, new stories will be released. This will push through with or without Luke, but you can always expect his character’s legacy to remain there due to how crucial he is to the story.
