Planning an International Trip: Tips & Tricks

When you are preparing for a trip abroad, let’s face it, the process is both overwhelming and so much exciting. It’s especially true for those planning their very first voyage to a faraway land. To ensure an enjoyable and smooth experience, you look for a world map to buy, check out all the destinations, and pin the places you would like to visit…but what’s next? We offer you to stick to our step-by-step guide that has everything from selecting a destination to packing all the things you might need at some point:

  • Pick where you would like to go. Of course, you should start by deciding on your destination. Take into account things like distance, climate, budget, interests, requirements for visa, etc. Do online research to see what places meet your travel goals, whether it’s a wildlife exploration, cultural experience, adventure, or relaxation.
  • Know what your budget is. Based on the money that you’re ready to spend on the journey, you’ll be able to pay for the basic aspects of it, such as flights, hotel rooms, activities, souvenirs, eating out, etc. Always be realistic about how much you’re ready to spend on your adventure, including hidden costs on visas, insurance, etc.
  • Book flights and places to stay. When you know where and when you’re going to travel to (and know your budget!), it is time to book your flights. Make a list of all those trusted fare comparison websites and search for the best deals there. When it comes to the places to stay, check out all options from hostels and hotels to vacation rentals and boutique stays. Obviously, your choice will depend on your budget and personal preferences.
  • Check out the requirements for a visa and passport. You must have a valid passport (at least 6 months beyond the travel date). Find out if you need a visa for this or that country and send your documents well in advance if needed. Keep in mind that some countries require specific vaccinations or/and solid proof of onward travel.
  • Choose a travel insurance policy. Travel insurance is a must when it comes to protecting you from unexpected situations like lost luggage, medical issues, cancellations of trips, etc. We recommend picking a policy that 100% covers each of your needs, especially if adventure activities are on the list.
  • Money, money, money. You’ll need money abroad, so you have to exchange some cash at home. Plus, it’s crucial to inform your bank about when exactly you’re going to leave the country in order to prevent card blocks. As for the low foreign transaction fees, using travel-friendly credit cards could be an option.
  • Packing smart is a must! It’s better to make a checklist with all the items that you have to pack. Include things like medications, clothes, toiletries, docs, and so on. Keep in mind the airline policies as you deal with hand luggage. This will help you avoid any extra fees.
  • Learn some words, phrases, and customs. There’s no need to learn the language from A to Z. Instead, learn a couple of common phrases and sentences in the local language. Plus, check out some key cultural norms. If you do so, you’ll show that you respect local customs, beliefs, and traditions.

Finally, find out more about local safety guidelines. Put down emergency numbers and learn about the areas that tourists should stay away from. Have copies of digital and physical documents to have the best travel experience possible. Bon voyage!
