The Modern Dog Bed Is Now Part of the Living Room
The modern dog bed is no longer hidden in a laundry room; it is now designed to sit in the living room like a piece of furniture.
The change is visible on Le Noof’s website, where beds come in bouclé, teddy, corduroy and flannel, the same fabrics found on sofas and armchairs.
The reason is simple. Dogs sleep between 12 and 18 hours a day, according to the American Kennel Club [1], and with dogs in about 71 million US households [4], their beds take up real floor space in real homes.

What makes a dog bed modern?
A dog bed reads as modern when it borrows from upholstery rather than pet supplies. Clean shapes, neutral colors and tactile fabrics replace the printed cushions of the past.
Design publication Dwell has argued that the best pet beds now offer “comfort without sacrificing style” [2]. The Beige Teddy Sofa Dog Bed follows that brief, with structured bolsters, a sheepskin-style finish and a removable, machine-washable cover.
That last feature is not a detail. The AKC advises owners to look for “a removable cover that you can easily toss in the wash weekly” [1]. A bed meant to be seen in the living room has to be easy to keep clean, and fabric choices now reflect that.
Are modern luxury dog beds comfortable enough for older dogs?
Modern luxury dog beds can suit older dogs, but only if there is real support under the style. The AKC notes that as dogs age they may develop arthritis and joint issues, and that “a supportive dog bed is imperative” [1].

Two examples show how brands now combine the two. The Tan Brown Flannel and Grey Corduroy Orthopedic Dog Beds each pair an orthopedic mattress with a removable pillow, a waterproof lining and a machine-washable cover.
How do you choose stylish dog beds for a small apartment?
In a small apartment, stylish dog beds have to earn their floor space. A low floor pillow, such as the 34 by 22 inch Bouclé Floor Dog Pillow, slides beside a sofa or into an entryway without dominating the room.
What does a mid century modern dog bed look like?
A mid century modern dog bed takes its cues from the 1940s and 1950s: low profiles, clean lines and nubby fabrics. Bouclé itself became a design classic after Knoll used it on Eero Saarinen’s Womb chair in the 1940s [3].

| Bed | Fabric | Built for |
| Teddy Sofa Dog Bed | Plush teddy | Dogs that love to lean on a bolster |
| Tan Brown Flannel Orthopedic | Flannel | Joint support |
| Grey Corduroy Orthopedic | Ribbed corduroy | Joint support, busy households |
| Bouclé Floor Dog Pillow | Bouclé | Small spaces and lounging |
One practical note for buyers: these beds ship rolled and vacuum-packed, and need up to 72 hours to reach full shape. It is a short wait for a piece that is meant to stay out on display.
