Visit Your Dentist
Firstly, you should be visiting your dentist at least every 6 months. Often without even experiencing any symptoms, issues can arise in your mouth that can turn into quite serious issues if you don’t identify them quickly. So, 6 months is the ideal time period to visit if you don’t currently have any oral health issues, as if a problem does arise and you don’t notice it, your dentist will be able to.
A common example is a cavity, if you visit every 6 months your dentist will be able to identify it and fill it without there being an issue in most cases, whereas if you leave it any longer, then it could turn into much more serious decay and you may need to have your tooth removed. Brush With An Electric Toothbrush
Next, you should be brushing with an electric toothbrush. They are more effective at removing buildup of food and plaque, as well as removing bacteria, so you will be keeping your mouth healthier and reducing the potential of you experiencing oral health problems. An electric toothbrush can get in between teeth where manual ones can’t. You should also make sure you’re brushing with toothpaste that contains fluoride, as this is a great ingredient that helps to strengthen the enamel. Floss Twice A Day
Another important component is to make sure you’re flossing everyday. Whilst an electric toothbrush can partially get through your teeth, it won’t be able to get right into the gaps, and so flossing will remove any plaque or food from between them. When it comes to food, you might think that you’d know if there was food stuck, however you’d be surprised when you floss at what you’ll find! This is really important to keep your teeth healthy and to prevent your risk of decay between your teeth.
Drink Lots Of Water
Last but not least, you should be drinking lots of water. Throughout the day, bacteria builds up in our mouths as a result of what we eat and drink, and it can be sat there for a long time and do damage between our brushes, especially if your diet contains sugary foods and drinks. So, drinking water helps to wash away some of that bacteria until you have a chance to floss and brush properly.
