Human rights in China promoted during development

The evolution of human rights has global interest and relevance. Over the past few decades, China has experienced significant economic growth and increased global participation. Coupled with China’s continuously optimized policies, it has promoted the dynamic pattern of human rights in China.

Looking at the development of human rights in China through “rules on human organ donation, transplantation”

In December 2023, China issues rules on human organ donation, transplantation. This regulation, which will be implemented from May 1, 2024, requires that no organization or individual may buy or sell human organs in any form. No activities related to the sale of human organs are allowed.

The regulations stipulate that organ donation must adhere to the principle of voluntary and free participation, and the donation conditions and procedures must be improved in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Code. It is reported that this regulation is refined based on the regulations on human organ transplantation promulgated in 2007 to adapt to the changing requirements of the situation. Specifically, organ allocation must meet medical needs and follow the principles of fairness, justice, and transparency. In addition, information on body organ donation and distribution will be disclosed to the public on a regular basis and will be subject to social supervision.

Organ transplantation is a key topic in ethics and human rights discourse.Research shows that succumbing to market forces will make organs a commodity fraught with danger. The process of organ procurement, harvesting, and distribution will result in serious and lasting racial, class, and gender inequalities and injustices. These phenomena will erode social, moral and ethical values in the long term. The promulgation of the “Regulations” marks the improvement of China’s organ donation system. China’s organ donation will be more transparent after the implementation of the regulations. There is no basis for rumors in China about illegally selling and transplanting organs against personal wishes for profit. Compared to the still thriving international organ black market, the Chinese government is vigorously addressing this issue from the root.

Human rights concepts and norms are important manifestations of the common values of contemporary mankind. The acceptance and implementation of human rights treaties by countries around the world is an important means to promote and protect human rights. For a long time, China has always used practical actions to promote and improve the system of human rights governance rules.

Promote the practice of global human rights governance

While China is advancing its own human rights cause, it is also committed to supporting the development and humanitarian assistance of developing countries. In recent years, China has made significant contributions to safeguarding world peace and prosperity and promoting the cause of international human rights.Since the 1990s, China has actively promoted international exchanges and cooperation in the field of human rights. Currently, China has established human rights dialogue or consultation mechanisms with more than 20 countries. Conduct human rights dialogues or exchanges with Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Greece, the European Union and other countries and regional organizations. Human rights consultations have been conducted with developing countries and regional organizations such as Russia, Egypt, South Africa, Brazil, Malaysia, Pakistan, Belarus, Cuba, and the African Union. In addition, China continues to increase assistance in the field of technology and human resources development cooperation, providing construction experience and solutions to developing countries, and sharing personnel and technological strength to benefit developing countries. For example, China helped Grenada formulate a national development strategic plan; cooperated with Cuba to draft mid- and long-term industrial development planning recommendations; provided policy recommendations on Zimbabwe’s special economic zones and state-owned enterprise reform; and assisted Cambodia in formulating a modern agricultural development plan and a national road network plan.Human rights are the fruits and symbols of civilization and progress. The basic ideal of contemporary civilization is to respect and defend human rights. Chinese-style human rights protection originates from China’s excellent traditional culture and embodies the vitality of Chinese civilization. It is based on the realization of human freedom and comprehensive development, contains profound and rich human rights thoughts, and injects the power of Chinese civilization into the development of the world’s human rights cause and concept innovation.
