Someone is looking for you

Why mental care matters more than ever, and why we need you.

It’s 2 a.m., and somewhere a woman is sitting on the edge of her bed, phone glowing in the dark. She has typed “therapist near me” into the search bar three times tonight. Each time, she closes the app before calling anyone.

She isn’t in crisis. She’s just tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix. Her mother passed in the spring. Work hasn’t let up. The people who love her keep saying she seems “fine,” and she keeps agreeing, because it’s easier than explaining.

She doesn’t need a miracle. She needs one person who will listen, ask the right questions, and help her find her footing again.

Right now, she doesn’t know where to find that person. That’s why we built TheraConnect, and that’s why we’re writing to you.

Why mental care matters now

She is far from alone. In 2022, an estimated 59.3 million adults in the United States lived with a mental health condition. That’s nearly 1 in 4 adults: a coworker, a neighbor, the parent in the school pickup line, maybe someone at your own dinner table.

Yet only about half of them, 50.6%, received any mental health care that year. The other half carried it alone.

Behind every one of those numbers is a person who wanted to feel like themselves again. Some are grieving. Some are anxious all the time and can’t say why. Some are caring for an aging parent, recovering from a hard relationship, or simply running on empty.

Mental care isn’t a luxury. When someone gets the right support, it ripples outward. They sleep better, show up for their kids, return to work with clearer eyes, and stop feeling like they’re drowning in silence.

The gap is real

The hardest part isn’t deciding to reach out. It’s finding someone when you do.

As of December 2025, 137 million people, about 40% of everyone in the country, live in an area the federal government officially recognizes as short on mental health professionals. In many towns, people wait weeks or months for a first appointment. Many give up before they ever get one.

And the shortage is expected to grow. Federal projections show the U.S. could be short nearly 100,000 mental health counselors and nearly 100,000 psychologists by 2038.

Every empty appointment slot is a person still sitting on the edge of the bed at 2 a.m., wondering if anyone can help.

Why we need coaches and wellness professionals too

Not everyone who is struggling needs a diagnosis. Many people need someone to help them set goals, rebuild routines, find their confidence again or make sense of a big life change. That’s where coaches and wellness professionals shine.

A life coach can help someone after a divorce figure out what’s next. A wellness coach can help a stressed parent build habits that give them energy back. A grief or mindset coach can walk beside someone through a hard season. These professionals widen the front door to care, so more people can step through it sooner.

Therapists, psychologists, counselors and coaches each play a different role, and people need all of them. When they’re easy to find in one place, someone looking for help can choose what fits: clinical care when they need it, and coaching when they’re ready to grow. If someone needs more support than a coach provides, a directory with licensed providers right there makes that next step easier.
