Volunteer Project delivers soups and basic food baskets to the vulnerable population
Amid the serious repercussions of the Coronavirus Pandemic, a project headed by João Aguiar Sperandio, in partnership with a local religious temple, delivered hundreds of soups and more than 20 basic food baskets to the needy population.
In some parts of the city, where the population suffered from unemployment and hunger, the project not only brought supplies, but also sought to extend a helping hand.
The project took place in the second half of 2021, lasting 5 months, when several volunteers dedicated part of their Wednesdays to producing dozens of marmitex with donations of meat, vegetables and pasta collected by João Aguiar Sperandio and other volunteers.
The delivery of supplies was the responsibility of João and Fernando. It started at 6pm and continued until donations ran out, around 11pm. For the delivery logistics, they had a borrowed Saveiro, which they loaded with soups and basic food baskets donated by the temple – destined for those who needed it most.
“The least we can do as a thank you is to offer some help to those who, for different reasons, are going through a difficult time. It was a period of growth and learning. We only receive good when we do it, and that’s why we must applaud the city’s charitable organizations that do this on a permanent basis. Before the project, we had been wanting to expand this type of work for a long time”, said João, creator of the project.
Asked if the project had political ambitions, he replied: “No, not at all… this work does not have that type of bias, and honestly the idea is even uncomfortable. My personality is focused on helping, in any way I can. It doesn’t always work out. But what if more people had this goal?”
The following contributed with donations to the project: Varejão da Matriz, Supermercado Carvalho, Secretariat of Social Services, Feijões Irano, Templo IPB.
